If you’ve got traditional American cuisine on the mind, a recent opening is need-to-know. The fresh arrival to downtown Dallas’ Arts District, called Ellie’s, can be found at 1717 Leonard St. inside the Hall Arts Hotel.

Ellie’s offers an upscale interpretation of classic homestyle cooking in an artful setting, as noted on The Dallas Morning News. On the menu, expect to see items like pumpkin soup, buttermilk breakfast pancakes, a five-ounce flat iron steak, cauliflower grain bowl and chicken divan casserole.

With a three-star rating out of eight reviews on Yelp thus far, Ellie’s seems to have gotten off to a bit of an uneven start.

Alex H., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new establishment on Jan. 25, wrote, “I was very impressed with the interior design and patio seating for warmer weather days. … For lunch, I opted for the club sandwich with a side of soup. The club [sandwich] was huge, and I normally finish all of my food, but there was enough to take a box to-go.”

Yelper Brittany J. added, “Great place for lunch! … I had the Ellie’s burger and fries, while my friend had the Crab Louie Cobb salad. Both of us loved our meals, the server was extremely friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was perfect.”

Intrigued? Stop in to give it a try for yourself. Ellie’s is open from 6:30 a.m.–10 p.m. on Monday-Thursday and Sunday and from 6:30 a.m.–11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
